The Travel Bags I Always Pack
I travel enough at this point that I’ve become extremely particular about the bags I bring with me.
Not because I care about having the trendiest travel setup — honestly, I care more about whether something can survive:
airplane floors
conference days
delayed flights
and me sprinting through terminals with an iced coffee and two laptops in my hand.
That’s why I keep reaching for the TUMI Voyageur Valetta Large Tote or the TUMI Voyageur Contine Weekender whenever I travel. Sometimes both.
They feel elevated and polished, but they’re also built for real life. The gold hardware looks expensive, the shapes stay structured, and the organization actually makes travel easier instead of more complicated.
And maybe most importantly? I never have to baby them.
I’ve never understood carrying a delicate luxury bag through an airport just to immediately place it on the floor at security or shove it under an airplane seat. I want travel pieces that look refined — but still function like they were designed by someone who actually travels.
These do exactly that.
The Tote That Basically Became My Mobile Office
The TUMI Voyageur Valetta Large Tote is the bag I carry most often for work travel.
At this point, it basically functions as my mobile office.
Most trips, I’m carrying:
two laptops
chargers
notebooks
and the random cords every conference seems to generate.
And somehow this bag still manages to look streamlined instead of chaotic.
That’s the part I appreciate most.
I can throw everything into it, slide it onto my suitcase, walk into a hotel lobby or client meeting, and still feel put together. The gold hardware gives it just enough structure and sophistication, while the nylon keeps it practical and easy to wipe clean after a long travel day.
Which matters more to me than having a “precious” bag ever will.
The Weekender I Bring on Longer Trips
The TUMI Voyageur Contine Weekender comes with me anytime I’m traveling for more than a quick overnight trip.
The zippered bottom compartment is the feature that completely sold me.
I use it constantly for:
dress shoes
workout clothes
sneakers
conference materials
anything I want separated from the rest of my bag
If I’m heading straight from the airport to a conference or dinner, I don’t want shoes mixed into the same section as everything else I packed. Having a separate compartment keeps everything cleaner, more organized, and much easier to unpack once I get to the hotel.
I’ve also learned that the more often you travel, the more valuable good organization becomes. Anything that removes friction from the process immediately becomes worth it to me.
The Kind of Luxury I Actually Care About
At this point in my life, I’m much less interested in things that simply look expensive.
I care more about pieces that:
function beautifully
simplify routines
hold up over time
and still make everyday life feel elevated.
That’s what these bags do for me.
They’re durable enough for real travel, organized enough for work trips, and refined enough that I still feel pulled together walking through the airport — even on the chaotic travel days.
And honestly?
That’s the kind of luxury I actually want now. -LME
