The Timeless Pieces I’m Taking Into Fall
Every year, as the weather starts to cool, I naturally find myself reaching for the same handful of pieces.
Not because they’re trendy, but because they’ve consistently earned their place in my wardrobe.
These are the pieces I reach for every September because they layer effortlessly, work together without much thought, and always make getting dressed feel easy.
The Pieces I’m Taking Into Fall
Together, these six pieces create far more outfits than you might expect. That’s become one of my favorite wardrobe lessons over the past few years: owning fewer pieces that work harder almost always feels more expensive than owning a closet full of trends.
Quince Mongolian Cashmere Tee
I’ve probably reached for this top more than any other knit in my closet this year.
It’s lightweight enough for late summer, soft enough to feel like a sweater, and polished enough to wear under a blazer for work or on its own with jeans for dinner. It packs beautifully, which is why it has become one of my favorite travel pieces, and it transitions into September without missing a beat.
When one piece works for travel, work, and weekends, it earns permanent closet space.
Quince Mongolian Cashmere Crewneck Sweater
This sweater has become my favorite “just in case” layer.
Some days I wear it. Just as often, I drape it over my shoulders while heading out the door. It adds texture to a simple outfit and is always there when the morning starts cooler or dinner runs later than expected.
If you read The Lightweight Layers I’ll Still Wear in September, you’ll recognize this sweater immediately. It earned another season because it’s exactly the kind of layer I reach for every fall.
Quince Scuba Blazer
Every wardrobe needs one blazer that can do almost everything.
For me, that’s the Quince Scuba Blazer.
It instantly dresses up jeans, layers comfortably over both tees and sweaters, and travels exceptionally well. It’s also one of the pieces you’ll continue to see throughout my travel and conference content because it works just as well walking through an airport as it does walking into a meeting.
And when you add in the cashmere inserts that are available, it creates a whole new look without having to pack an extra layer. That’s the kind of versatility I’m always looking for.
Trendy Queen Fitted Tee
A great tee doesn’t need to be complicated.
It just needs to fit well, hold its shape, and layer with everything else in your closet.
This one does exactly that.
It’s become one of those pieces I never have to think twice about because it works under a blazer, under a cardigan, with denim, or tucked into travel pants. Sometimes the simplest pieces end up becoming the hardest-working ones.
Trendy Queen Wide-Leg Jeans
If you’ve seen many of my outfit posts, you’ve probably seen these jeans.
The dark wash makes them feel polished, while the wide-leg silhouette keeps them comfortable enough for long travel days. I especially like the unfinished hem because it gives them just enough modern detail without feeling trendy.
They’re the pair I instinctively reach for when I don’t want to overthink getting dressed—and that usually tells me everything I need to know.
Rothy’s Leopard Flats
Every wardrobe needs one piece that adds a little personality.
For me, it’s these leopard-print Rothy’s flats.
Leopard has become almost a neutral because it pairs effortlessly with black, white, camel, olive, and denim. The rounded toe keeps them timeless, while the washable knit construction makes them practical enough for real life.
They’re also one of my favorite travel shoes because they’re comfortable enough for airports yet polished enough to wear straight to dinner. And can be thrown in the washing machine when I get home to get the “travel scuzz” off the bottoms.
They’re proof that one small detail can completely change an outfit.
Why These Pieces Keep Earning Their Place
None of these pieces earned a spot in my wardrobe because they were trendy.
They earned it by proving themselves over and over again.
They travel well. They mix together effortlessly. They still look polished after countless wears. And every September, they’re the first pieces I naturally find myself reaching for.
That’s become the filter I use before buying almost anything now.
If I don’t think I’ll still be excited to wear it next fall, it probably doesn’t belong in my closet today.
For me, that’s what Looks More Expensive has always been about—not buying more clothes, but buying timeless pieces that continue to earn their place, season after season. -LME
