The Electronics I Never Fly Without

There are a lot of things I can forget when I travel and figure out once I arrive.

A pair of earrings? I’ll survive.

An extra sweater? I’ll buy one if I absolutely need it.

A phone charger? That’s where things start getting stressful.

After years of conference travel, delayed flights, airport layovers, hotel room desk setups, and far too many hours spent hunting for outlets, I’ve narrowed my travel electronics down to a small group of items that consistently earn a spot in my carry-on.

These aren’t the newest gadgets on the market. They’re simply the pieces that make travel easier.

The Anker Charger That Replaced a Bag Full of Chargers

At one point, I was carrying separate chargers for everything.

Laptop charger.

Phone charger.

Kindle charger.

Random backup charger that somehow ended up in my bag years ago.

It was ridiculous.

This Anker charger solved that problem.

It’s compact, powerful, and capable of charging multiple devices at once. Instead of carrying a collection of charging bricks, I bring one charger that handles nearly everything.

When you’re trying to travel carry-on only, eliminating clutter becomes surprisingly satisfying.

The Power Bank That Has Saved More Than One Travel Day

Airport outlets aren’t guaranteed.

Neither are outlets on airplanes.

And if you’ve ever been stuck sitting on the floor next to an airport column because it was the only available outlet, you know exactly what I’m talking about.

That’s why a high-capacity power bank always travels with me.

Most trips I don’t need it.

But when a flight gets delayed, a gate changes, or an airplane decides not to cooperate with modern technology, I’m always happy it’s there.

Being able to charge my phone, tablet, or laptop without relying on an outlet removes a surprising amount of travel stress.

The Raycon Earbuds I Reach For Every Time

I know a lot of people love the giant over-ear headphones.

I’ve tried them.

They’re not for me.

I’d rather save the space in my carry-on and use a pair of noise-canceling earbuds that disappear once they’re in.

Whether I’m listening to a podcast while walking through the airport, answering emails on a flight, or simply trying to block out the person having a loud phone conversation three rows behind me, these are what I reach for.

They’re comfortable, compact, and easy to toss into a blazer pocket when I’m not using them.

The Charging Station That Makes Hotel Rooms Easier

Hotel rooms never seem to put outlets where you actually need them.

There’s usually one behind the nightstand.

One across the room.

Maybe one near the desk if you’re lucky.

After enough trips, I finally stopped fighting it.

Now I bring a multi-port charging station that lets me create one charging hub wherever I want it.

Phone.

Earbuds.

Watch.

Kindle.

Everything charges in one place overnight, and I’m not crawling around hotel furniture trying to find another outlet.

The Cables and Cable Ties That Keep Everything Organized

Travel electronics have a way of turning into chaos.

A few charging cables somehow become a tangled knot at the bottom of a bag.

Then you’re standing at a gate trying to figure out which cable goes with which device.

The solution turned out to be surprisingly simple.

A handful of quality charging cables and reusable magnetic cable ties.

They’re inexpensive, they take up almost no space, and they keep everything organized enough that I can actually find what I need when I need it.

Which, in my opinion, is one of the best travel upgrades you can make.

The Real Secret

The goal isn’t to carry more electronics.

It’s to carry the right ones.

Every item in my carry-on has a job. If it isn’t making travel easier, more comfortable, or less stressful, it doesn’t stay.

These are the pieces that have earned their space after years of conference travel, delayed flights, hotel stays, and airport layovers.

And at this point, I wouldn’t want to travel without them. -LME
