The Things I Keep Buying in White (And Why I Never Regret It)
One day I opened my closet and noticed something I hadn't done on purpose.
I kept buying white.
White T-shirts.
White long sleeves.
Ivory sweaters.
White button-downs.
White sneakers.
I don't remember deciding that white was "my color."
It had simply become the color I trusted most.
Looking back, I think I know why.
White never asks me to overthink an outfit.
It quietly works with almost everything I already own.
It feels crisp.
Refined.
Intentional.
And somehow, it always makes getting dressed a little easier.
That's probably why I keep buying it...
and why I've never regretted a single one.
The Tee I Keep Replacing
Every wardrobe has that one piece everything seems to start with.
For me, it's a white Trendy Queen T-shirt.
Actually...
It's two.
The short sleeve in warmer weather and the long sleeve as soon as temperatures start to cool down.
They've quietly become the foundation for almost everything else I wear.
Dark jeans.
Travel pants.
Blazers.
Cardigans.
Airport outfits.
Coffee runs.
The older I get, the less interested I am in clothes that need convincing.
These never do.
The Layer I Buy Again Every Fall
As soon as mornings start feeling cooler, I automatically reach for the long-sleeve version.
It's fitted enough to wear on its own.
Thin enough to layer under jackets and sweaters.
Simple enough that I never have to wonder if it works.
I've realized my favorite outfits usually aren't the ones I spent the most time planning.
They're the ones that happened almost automatically.
The Sweater That Never Gets Left Behind
If one piece has quietly earned permanent status in my wardrobe, it's my ivory Quince cashmere sweater.
Sometimes I wear it.
Sometimes it's simply draped over my shoulders.
Airport lounges.
Business dinners.
Weekend coffee.
Travel days.
I've stopped packing it because I think I'll need it.
I pack it because I know I'll wish I had it if I don't.
That's a very different kind of purchase.
The Shirt That Solved "What Do I Wear?"
There are certain mornings when I don't want fashion to be a decision.
Conference days.
Client meetings.
Business dinners.
Travel.
That's where my white button-down blouse comes in.
It works with trousers.
Jeans.
Over a tank.
I don't wear it because it's exciting.
I wear it because it quietly makes everything around it feel more polished.
Sometimes that's exactly what getting dressed should do.
The Shoes I Never Have to Think About
My white Veja sneakers have probably removed more wardrobe decisions than anything else I own.
They work with everything.
Skorts.
Dark denim.
Travel outfits.
Business casual.
Weekend errands.
I don't reach for them because they're white.
I reach for them because I already know they'll work.
There's something incredibly freeing about shoes that never make you second-guess the rest of your outfit.
White Doesn't Stand Out
It makes everything else work.
I've realized I don't actually love white because it's white.
I love what it quietly does for the rest of my wardrobe.
It doesn't compete.
It doesn't demand attention.
It simply makes everything around it feel cleaner.
Brighter.
More refined.
White signals the feeling I want my wardrobe to have.
Not flashy.
Not trendy.
Just timeless enough that I never have to wonder whether it still works.
I Didn't Mean to Build a White Wardrobe
It just happened.
Every time I bought something in white...
I ended up wearing it more than I expected.
Then I bought another.
Eventually I stopped questioning the pattern.
I've realized I don't actually collect white clothes.
I collect pieces that remove decisions.
When I pull something white out of my closet, I already know it's going to work.
That doesn't happen very often in fashion.
Maybe that's why I keep buying it.
Not because I'm trying to build a wardrobe around one color.
Because every time I do...
It quietly earns its place all over again. -LME
