The Pieces That Earn Permanent Closet Space: Summer Edition
If you opened my closet right now, you’d find these pieces front and center.
Every summer, I buy a few things. Most are good. A few become favorites. But these are the pieces that have earned permanent closet space because they consistently make getting dressed easier.
They’re comfortable, versatile, easy to pack, and easy to wear. More importantly, they’re the pieces I actually reach for instead of just admiring from the hanger. And I own them all in several colors.
The Trendy Queen tees are already an established Looks More Expensive favorite. They’re comfortable, flattering, easy to layer, and somehow manage to look more polished than their price tag would suggest. They work with everything from jeans to capris, which is probably why I reach for them so often.
The Trendy Queen wide-leg jeans are another repeat purchase. The light wash feels perfect for summer, and the denim is lightweight enough to wear comfortably even when the weather is beautiful outside. They have that relaxed, effortless look that works equally well for errands, lunch with friends, or a casual evening out.
When I want to look a little more put together, I reach for the Rekucci capris. The button detail elevates them just enough to feel polished without sacrificing comfort. They’re an easy way to dress up a simple tee while still feeling completely comfortable throughout the day.
The Quince cashmere sweater earns its spot every single summer because it solves a very specific problem. Coastal evenings, over-air-conditioned restaurants, and unexpected temperature drops always seem to appear when you least expect them. I usually throw it over my shoulder before heading out, and I’m almost always glad I brought it.
For shoes, the Clarks sandals handle most of my everyday summer life. They’re comfortable enough to wear all around town, whether I’m running errands, meeting friends, or spending the afternoon walking around. They’re the kind of shoe you stop thinking about because they simply work.
And when I want a little extra height or want an outfit to feel slightly more dressed up, I reach for the TOMS wedges. I’ve always loved a good wedge because it gives you the polished look of a heel without the discomfort. They seem to be made for people with more narrow feet, which I have. These are comfortable enough to wear for hours, and they instantly make a simple outfit feel a little more elevated.
None of these are the most expensive pieces in my closet. They’re simply the pieces that have earned their place by being comfortable, versatile, and easy to wear. When I look at what I actually reach for week after week during the summer, it’s usually some version of this combination.
Elevated doesn’t always mean new. Sometimes it means finding the pieces that work so well you never feel the need to replace them. -LME
