The Things I'm Making Sure I Have Before Labor Day Weekend
By Thursday evening before Labor Day weekend, I don't want to be thinking about errands anymore.
I want to be thinking about boat reservations, golf cart rides, and whether we're watching the sunset from the dock.
I've learned that a little preparation earlier in the week makes the entire weekend feel different.
Not because everything is perfectly organized.
Because I'm no longer interrupting the weekend to go buy something I forgot.
Over the years, the list has become surprisingly consistent.
The products have changed.
The routine hasn't.
The Hydration Essentials I Stock First
Hydration isn't something I want to think about once the weekend starts.
I want to know it's already handled.

It's where the cheeses, charcuterie meats, crackers, fresh fruit, and sparkling water all end up waiting before anyone arrives.
Sometimes we build a board before heading out on the boat.
Sometimes friends stop by unexpectedly.
Sometimes it's just an easy lunch between being outside.

Labor Day weekends are funny around here.
The afternoons still feel like summer.
The evenings start reminding you that fall isn't far away.
So before the weekend begins, I make sure a few extra layers are already waiting.

I've noticed that the weekends I enjoy the most are rarely the ones where I buy the most.
They're the ones where I prepared just enough that I could stop thinking about what I forgot.
That's really the goal.
Not a perfectly stocked kitchen.
Not a perfectly packed boat bag.
Not a picture-perfect refrigerator.
Just enough preparation that, when the long weekend finally arrives, I can spend it doing the things I was looking forward to all week instead of making another trip to the store.
Because the best Labor Day weekends don't happen by accident.
