The Things That Never Leave My TUMI Bag

Every work trip used to start the same way.

I'd put my TUMI bag on the bed...

...and immediately start wondering what I'd forgotten.

A charger?

Headphones?

Medicine?

Somewhere along the way, I realized I was packing the same things before every single flight.

So I stopped.

I don't really pack my TUMI bag anymore.

I maintain it.

After every trip, I recharge a few things, refill a few things, replace anything I used, zip it back up...

...and it's ready for the next boarding pass.

Over the years, I've realized that's made travel a lot less stressful.

Instead of packing from scratch before every work trip, my essentials are already waiting for me.

These are the things that have earned permanent space.

The Earbuds I Never Have to Readjust

I've tried enough earbuds to know that comfort matters just as much as sound quality.

Especially on longer flights.

The best travel gear is usually the kind you stop noticing.

Once my Raycon Fitness Earbuds are in, I don't think about them again until we land. I have smaller ears and other earbuds are not comfortable and fall out.

They stay snug without ever feeling uncomfortable, even on flights from the East Coast to the West Coast. And the active noise-cancelling and different sound profiles keeps me in tune with whatever show I’m listening to.

The case is small enough to slip into the pocket of whatever blazer or jacket I'm wearing, so I can grab them as soon as boarding starts instead of digging through my bag.

That's exactly what I want from travel gear.

Quietly reliable.

The Charger That Keeps Up With Me

One of the first things I do when I walk into the Delta Sky Club is plug my laptop in.

Even a short layover becomes a chance to recharge before the next flight.

That's why my Anker charger permanently lives in my TUMI bag.

It charges my MacBook quickly enough that I don't spend the rest of the day watching the battery percentage tick downward during meetings.

It's one less thing I have to remember to pack.

And one less thing I have to think about once I get to the airport.

The Backup Plan I Never Travel Without

Airplanes have gotten much better about power outlets.

I still don't trust them.

That's why an Anker power bank permanently lives in my bag.

If my phone, earbuds, or laptop need a little extra power while I'm in the air, I don't have to hope my seat's outlet works.

Or that someone else isn't already using it.

It's one of those things I rarely think about...

Until I need it.

Then I'm incredibly glad it's there.

The Little Pouch That Saves Bad Travel Days

This is probably the least exciting thing in my TUMI bag.

It's also the one I'd miss the most.

Inside is a small pouch with hand sanitizer, mints, ibuprofen, and a handful of other travel basics.

I hope I never need most of what's inside.

But if a headache starts halfway through a four-hour flight...

I'm already carrying the solution.

When I get home, I refill the ibuprofen from my larger bottle.

And after years of airports, airplanes, rental cars, and hotel rooms, hand sanitizer has earned permanent status.

Some things don't make travel more glamorous.

They simply make it easier.

The Bag That's Already Ready

I've realized the best travel systems aren't built the night before a trip.

They're built one flight at a time.

Every time I find something that quietly makes traveling easier...

It earns permanent space.

That's why I refill it.

Recharge it.

Replace what I used.

Then zip it closed until the next boarding pass shows up in my inbox.

Because the less I have to think before an early morning flight...
