Saturday Morning at the Farmers Market: Golf Cart Coastal Edition

One of the things I still can’t quite believe about living here is how often a normal Saturday turns into something else.

This particular Saturday started with a trip to the farmers market.

I pulled on a Southern Marsh seersucker skort, layered a navy SPF shirt over one of my favorite CRZ Yoga tanks, slipped on my navy Clarks sandals, Goodr sunglasses, grabbed my Sea Bags tote, and hopped on the golf cart.

The plan was simple: wander through the market, pick up a few things, and head home.

That’s not exactly how it went.

A little while later, I found myself driving back through town with fresh flowers, cucumber feta dip, and pickle dip in the tote beside me.

Both dips were excellent, by the way.

I unloaded everything at home, put the flowers on the counter, tossed the dips in the refrigerator, and thought my Saturday plans were finished.

Then my phone rang.

A friend invited me out on the boat.

So I turned around, grabbed my golf cart keys, and headed right back out the door.

The best part?

I didn’t need to change a thing.

Why This Outfit Worked

The older I get, the less interested I am in outfits that only work for one specific purpose.

I don’t want clothes that only work for brunch.

Or only work for errands.

Or only work for a boat day.

I want pieces that can handle whatever the day turns into.

The seersucker skort was comfortable enough for walking around the market and still felt right for an afternoon near the water.

The CRZ Yoga tank gave me the option of a little more sun if I wanted it.

The SPF shirt gave me coverage when I didn’t.

The Goodr sunglasses not only provide SPF protection, but they’re also polarized and they float - which is super important when you’re out on the water.

And the Clarks sandals handled everything from market sidewalks to marina docks without me thinking twice about them.

None of those pieces are particularly complicated.

That’s exactly the point.

The Tote That Was Already Packed

One thing that made the entire transition easy was the tote bag.

If you’ve read The Four Beach Must-Haves I Never Leave Home Without, you already know I keep a small collection of water-day essentials ready to go.

Most of them were already in my Sea Bags tote.

My favorite SPF products were packed.

A Turkish towel was already inside.

A few other beach and boat essentials were there too.

When the invitation came, there wasn’t much to do except go.

The flowers came out.

Everything else stayed exactly where it was.

Real Life Is Usually Better Than The Plan

One of the themes you’ll probably notice throughout Looks More Expensive is that I buy very few things for a single purpose.

I want pieces that work in airports.

Pieces that work in conference rooms.

Pieces that work on golf carts.

Pieces that work at farmers markets.

And sometimes, if you’re lucky, pieces that work on a boat a few hours later.

Because the best purchases aren’t usually the most exciting ones.

They’re the ones that quietly fit into your life over and over again.

This outfit did exactly that.

And somewhere between the farmers market, the golf cart ride, and the boat, it ended up being one of my favorite Saturdays of the summer. -LME
