Would I Buy It Again? Our Ring 5
The insights? Absolutely.
The rose gold? They finally got it right.
For years, I wore a Garmin watch.
I loved the data.
I hated sleeping in a watch.
That was always the tradeoff.
I wanted the information, but I didn't want something bulky on my wrist every night.
When Oura released its first rings, I became an early adopter because it solved that one problem.
I finally had the sleep data I wanted without wearing a watch to bed.
Years later, I'm now wearing my fifth Oura Ring.
And if I lost it tomorrow...
I'd order another one before the end of the day.
The Rose Gold Finally Lives Up to the Price
There was one thing that almost kept me from buying another Oura Ring in rose gold.
My Oura Ring 3.
I paid extra for the rose gold finish because I loved the way it looked.
Unfortunately, it didn't stay looking that way.
The finish wore down much faster than I expected, and before long it looked nothing like the ring I'd paid extra for.
I almost ordered a different finish this time.
I'm really glad I didn't.
Whatever Oura changed with the Ring 5, they got it right.
I wear this ring every single day.
It stays on my right hand almost all the time.
And after months of wear, the finish still looks brand new.
For me, that alone was a huge improvement.
I Thought I Slept Well
The biggest surprise wasn't buying the ring.
It was realizing I had been completely wrong about my sleep.
I honestly thought I slept pretty well.
The data politely disagreed.
Some mornings I woke up feeling fine, only to see that my sleep wasn't nearly as restorative as I thought.
Other nights I assumed had been terrible turned out to be perfectly normal.
Instead of guessing how I slept...
I finally knew.
That changed the way I thought about recovery completely.
The Habit I Didn't Expect to Change
The most valuable thing the Oura Ring ever showed me wasn't my sleep score.
It was what alcohol was doing to my body.
Before wearing the ring, I knew I didn't sleep quite as well after having a few drinks.
I assumed I'd have one rough night, wake up the next morning, and everything would be back to normal.
The data told a very different story.
Even just a few drinks would push my resting heart rate higher than normal, tank my sleep quality, and affect my recovery—not just that night, but often for two or even three days afterward.
Seeing those patterns over and over again completely changed the way I looked at drinking.
The ring never told me to stop.
It never sent a notification suggesting I drink less.
It simply showed me what was happening.
Once I could see it objectively, the decision became pretty easy.
Today, I probably drink 90% less than I used to.
Not because of a rule I made for myself.
Because I finally understood how much it was affecting me long after I thought it was.
For me, that insight has been worth far more than any individual sleep score.
Charging It Isn't Something I Think About
People ask me surprisingly often whether it's annoying to keep charged.
Honestly...
Not at all.
I keep the charger on my desk.
Every few days, when I notice the battery getting a little low, I set it on the charger while I'm working.
By the time I've finished a few meetings or answered emails, it's ready to go again.
Because I charge it during the workday, I almost never notice that I'm not wearing it.
I Forget It's Even There
That's probably the biggest compliment I can give it.
I don't think about it.
I don't adjust it.
I don't take it off unless it's charging.
Unlike my Garmin watch, it simply became part of my daily routine.
That's exactly what I wanted.
I actually love ending with this section.
It feels exactly like the kind of advice someone who's lived with a product for years would give—not something copied from the product page.
I'd put it just before "Would I Buy It Again?"
A Few Helpful Hints
After wearing Oura Rings for years, there are a couple of things I'd recommend that will make the experience much better from day one.
Buy a Second Charger
One charger lives permanently on my desk.
The other lives permanently in my travel toiletry bag.
I never have to remember to pack it before a trip because it's already there.
It's a small purchase that has saved me from showing up at a hotel with a low battery and no charger more than once.
If you travel regularly, I think it's well worth buying the second one.
Don't Guess Your Ring Size
This is probably the biggest mistake you can make.
Oura doesn't use traditional jewelry sizing.
Their sizing is unique to the ring itself, so don't assume you already know your size.
Order the sizing kit first.
Wear the sample ring for a day or two.
Sleep in it.
Pay attention to how it feels in the morning when your fingers are naturally a little more swollen.
Taking the extra few days to get the size right is absolutely worth it.
You'll be wearing the ring nearly all the time, so comfort matters more than rushing to get it.
Would I Buy It Again?
Without hesitation. I’ve already bought four of them.
The hardware has improved.
The rose gold finish finally feels worthy of the premium price.
The battery has never been an issue.
But none of those are the real reason I'd buy another one.
The real reason is much simpler.
It removed the guesswork.
I thought I knew how well I slept.
I didn't.
I thought one night of drinking only affected one night of sleep.
It didn't.
The Oura Ring never told me what to do.
It never judged my habits.
It simply showed me the patterns I couldn't see on my own.
That's become a theme throughout my life.
The best products aren't always the ones that change everything overnight.
They're the ones that quietly give you better information, remove a little uncertainty, and help you make better decisions over time.
For me, that's exactly what the Oura Ring has done.
And that's why I'd buy it again. -LME
