PDX Airport Outfit: Comfortable Enough to Fly. Polished Enough for Happy Hour.
When I landed in Portland, it was drizzling.
Honestly, I almost expect it every time I visit.
That meant I needed an outfit that could handle walking between the airport, the rental car, and happy hour without getting soaked, while still keeping me warm enough on the plane. I also wanted to avoid packing a second outfit just for happy hour after I landed.
This is the outfit I wore—and every piece earned its place.
The Outfit
Every piece solved a different problem, but together they created an outfit I never had to think about again for the rest of the day. That's become my favorite kind of travel outfit.
A Layer That Handled Portland
The bomber jacket solved two problems before I even boarded the plane.
Portland was cool and drizzling, but airports and airplanes are rarely warm either. I wanted one lightweight layer that could handle both without feeling bulky once I arrived.
The Athleta Jet Set Bomber did exactly that. It kept the drizzle off during the walk outside, was comfortable enough to leave on through the flight, and gave the outfit just enough structure that I felt perfectly comfortable heading straight to happy hour after landing.
Underneath, I wore a fitted red Trendy Queen tee. Everything else stayed neutral, which let the red become the focal point without making the outfit feel busy. A fitted tee also layers much better than oversized styles, keeping the bomber looking clean and polished instead of bulky.
Sometimes one pop of color is all an outfit needs.
Comfortable Enough to Forget About
The hardest-working piece of the outfit might actually have been the pants.
The Anatomie Allie Travel Hybrid Pant handled walking through PDX, sitting on the flight, and the rest of the day without ever looking like "travel pants." They resist wrinkles, move easily, and still look polished hours after leaving home. When I arrived in Portland, I never once felt like I needed to change before heading to happy hour.
That's exactly what I want from a travel outfit.
The Onitsuka Tiger Mexico 66 sneakers completed the outfit.
They've become one of my favorite airport shoes because they're lightweight, easy to walk in for long days at the airport, and have a slimmer profile than many athletic sneakers. The red accents tie everything together without matching too perfectly, and they transition just as easily into dinner or drinks after the flight as they do through the security line.
When one pair of shoes works all day, they usually end up coming on every trip.
The Pieces That Carried Everything Else

One thing I've learned after years of business travel is that the best airport outfit isn't necessarily the most fashionable one.
It's the one you never have to think about.
I didn't pack a second outfit for Portland.
I didn't need one.
Every piece handled exactly what I asked it to do—from a rainy arrival, to a chilly airplane, to happy hour after landing.
That's become the filter I use whenever I'm buying travel clothes now.
If one piece can't solve multiple problems, it probably doesn't earn a place in my suitcase.
And if it does?
It usually earns a permanent place in my closet.
