The Labor Day Outfit I'd Wear Again Next Weekend

One of my friends always looks like she just stepped off a yacht in the Hamptons.

She pulls off flowy better than just about anyone I know.

I typically do not.

When she came to visit me for Labor Day weekend, I decided to take a page out of her style book. Instead of reaching for my usual lightweight jeans, I leaned into softer silhouettes, lighter fabrics, and pieces that felt a little more relaxed than I normally gravitate toward.

I honestly surprised myself.

By the time we got down tooling around town for the weekend, I was already thinking about wearing the outfit again the following Saturday.

That's usually how I know something has earned a permanent place in my closet.

The Button-Down That Makes Every Outfit Better

The oversized gauzy button-down ended up being the piece that quietly tied everything together.

I wore it open over a simple white V-neck for brunch and walking around town, and it gave the outfit just enough structure without making it feel heavy. The fabric is incredibly soft and lightweight, so it added another layer without feeling like another layer.

When it warmed up in the afternoon, I simply tied it around my waist for a few hours.

As soon as the coastal breeze picked up later that evening, it went right back on.

That's exactly the kind of versatility I look for when I pack. I love pieces that adapt to the day instead of forcing me to change outfits.

The Tee That Goes With Everything

Every suitcase needs one dependable basic.

Mine is almost always a simple white V-neck.

It's the piece that quietly makes everything else work. It paired perfectly with the button-down, would have worked just as well on its own, and could have easily been worn with the linen pants if our dinner plans had ended up being a little more casual.

As the year goes by, I don't look for more tops.

I look for better foundations.

The Pants That Are On Repeat

I've stopped switching handbags every weekend.

My golf cart key.

That's about it.

The soft blush color works with almost everything I own, which means I never have to think twice about whether it goes with the outfit. But it’s a handbag I have in several colors because it fits my lifestyle.

Sometimes the best travel piece is simply the one that disappears into your routine.

The Sunglasses That Go With Everything

Some accessories demand attention.

These don't.

The Best Outfits Aren't Reserved for Holidays

I've realized my favorite outfits are never the ones I save for special occasions.

They're the ones I can't wait to wear again.

This one started as a small nod to a friend's effortless style.

It ended up becoming one of my favorite outfits for the season.

If I'm already thinking about packing it for next weekend before I've even unpacked...

...it probably earned its place in my closet.

Because the best outfits don't end with the holiday.
