Friday Ice Cream Run: Golf Cart Coastal Edition

Some of the best summer evenings aren’t planned.

A few of us were relaxing at my friends’ townhouse while the grandkids played when someone suggested taking the golf carts into town for ice cream at The General Store. Within a few minutes, we were cruising down to our waterfront with everyone excited to pick their favorite flavor.

I wasn’t wearing anything special because we hadn’t planned to go anywhere—which turned out to be the perfect reminder that the pieces I wear most are usually the ones I never have to think about.

InstantCool UPF Yoga Tank Top

This Halara tank is what I reach for on 90-degree days. Coastal summers in North Carolina are hot and humid, so I always appreciate pieces that feel cool without looking overly athletic. It’s one of those basics that quietly earns its place because it works for everything from relaxing at a friend’s house to an unexpected trip downtown.

Crossover High Waisted Instant Cool Shorts

These shorts have become proof that comfort doesn’t have to look sloppy. They’re lightweight enough for summer afternoons, comfortable enough to spend hours visiting with friends, and polished enough that I never think twice about making an unplanned stop in town.

They’re exactly the kind of piece that passes my The 5 Questions I Ask Before Buying Clothes test—it works for real life, not just one occasion.

Marc Jacobs Snapshot Crossbody

A golf cart ride doesn’t require much, which is why this bag is perfect. It holds everything I actually need without getting in the way, and this light pink color has quietly become one of the most versatile bags in my summer wardrobe. It pairs just as easily with casual shorts as it does with dresses and white jeans.

Goodr Sunglasses

I keep buying this same pair in different colors because they’re the ones I actually wear. They’re lightweight, polarized, comfortable, and affordable enough that I never worry about throwing them in the golf cart or taking them on the boat.

The Best Evenings Usually Start with “Why Not?”

One of my favorite things about living in my little coastal town is how often simple plans turn into great memories.

We spent the evening laughing while everyone picked their ice cream flavors, standing outside talking a little longer than we planned, and enjoying one of those warm summer nights where nobody seemed to be in a hurry to head home.

Those spontaneous golf cart rides are exactly why I always keep my favorite essentials ready to go. They’re the same pieces that have earned permanent spots in my closet because they work just as well for the plans I make as the ones I don’t.

Sometimes the best outfits aren’t the ones you planned.

They’re simply the ones that are ready when someone says, “Who wants to go get ice cream?” -LME
