Comfortable Enough for the Plane. Polished Enough to Land.

Comfortable, Warm + Chic

There’s a very specific kind of travel outfit I’m always trying to achieve: comfortable enough for the plane, polished enough to still feel put together when I land. This outfit was exactly that.

When I flew into Cedar Rapids, temperatures were noticeably cooler than what I’d left behind, and I wanted layers that actually felt warm without looking bulky or overly casual. The combination of structured tailoring, soft cashmere, sleek leggings, and classic sneakers ended up being one of my favorite travel formulas lately.

The entire look felt elevated, comfortable, and realistic for an actual travel day — which is always the goal with Looks More Expensive.

The Formula

Quince Scuba Convertible Blazer + Cashmere Hoodie Insert

This blazer is what makes the entire outfit feel polished. The scuba fabric has enough structure to instantly elevate leggings, but it’s still comfortable enough to wear through a full travel day.

The removable cashmere hoodie insert is what sold me. It gives the layered “hoodie under blazer” look without bulk, and it adds real warmth for chilly airports and colder landings. Plus, I can remove the liner for business meetings the next morning.

This is one of those pieces that quietly looks far more expensive than it is.

Quince Mongolian Cashmere Crew Neck

Underneath the blazer, I layered the Quince Mongolian cashmere crew neck in heather grey.

It’s soft, lightweight, and warm without overheating — exactly what I want for travel. The neutral grey also keeps everything looking clean and understated while adding texture to the outfit.

Cashmere-on-cashmere layering always gives an outfit a more refined feel, even when the rest of the look is very simple.

Spanx 7/8 Leggings with Full-Tummy Compression

I know some people still hesitate to wear leggings while traveling, but a sleek, structured legging can absolutely look elevated when styled correctly.

These Spanx leggings are compressive, smoothing, and hold their shape beautifully throughout the day. They balance the oversized blazer perfectly and keep the silhouette streamlined instead of sloppy.

They’re also genuinely comfortable for long airport days.

Onitsuka Tiger Serrano Sneakers

These sneakers are one of my favorite examples of an item that feels quietly stylish without screaming for attention.

They’re lightweight, comfortable, and classic in the best way. The slim profile keeps the outfit feeling sleek instead of overly athletic, which is important when I’m pairing sneakers with tailoring.

I wear these constantly for travel.

Why This Outfit Works

What I loved most about this look was the balance:

  • warm but not heavy

  • comfortable but not sloppy

  • practical but still polished

Every piece serves a purpose, but the overall outfit still feels intentional.

That’s really the core of Looks More Expensive: choosing pieces that work hard, travel well, and make everyday life feel a little more elevated.

And for a chilly Midwest arrival? This one was exactly what I wanted. -LME
